When it comes to TMJ, TMD treatment, here at Monmouth Dental Arts, I am trained in multiple different orophacial pain treatments. This includes the use of Botox. With Botox, we can help inject them into the jaw and the other related muscles in the head and neck to help relieve some of this tension and excessive force that’s being created and causing damage to these teeth and also the associated headaches and migraines that can come with that as well as the orophacial pain.
We also can look into how the bite may be off and could be causing joint issues, teeth grinding issues, wear on the teeth. We do a bite analysis using our iTero scanner. Our iTero scanner is a three-dimensional scanner that emits no radiation and it’ll help us see on the screen exactly where the pressure is on our bite and see if maybe we can use something like Invisalign, something conservative, in order to put the teeth in the proper position to relieve the joint pain and these excessive wear issues on the teeth.
If need be, if the teeth have been worn to the point where we can’t fix it something so simply, that tooth structure will not grow back, so we have to restore. So we would then come up with a game plan to restore these worn down teeth, to put them back in the proper position that’s more importantly comfortable to the patient. We don’t want the patient to still deal with the sensitivity of the worn teeth, but we also want them to be comfortable in their new bite.
